Securing your first contract can be a pretty intimidating experience, especially if you have no clue where to start. This guide will provide a step-by-step walkthrough for identifying potential partners, building relationships, creating a partnership proposal, and closing the partnership agreement.

  1. Identify potential partners: Research potential partners in your industry and create a list of companies or individuals that may be interested in your organization’s services.
  2. Reach out: Contact the potential partners through email, phone, or in-person meetings to introduce yourself and your organization.
  3. Build relationships: Take the time to build relationships with potential partners by learning about their most pressing needs and goals. This will help you understand how your organizations can align and benefit each other.
  4. Create a partnership proposal: Once you have a clear understanding of the potential partner’s goals and needs, create a proposal that outlines how your organizations can work together and how it will benefit both parties.
  5. Present your proposal: Schedule a meeting or call to present your proposal to the potential partner. Be prepared to answer any questions they may have and provide additional information if needed.
  6. Negotiate and close the partnership agreement: Once the potential partner has reviewed your proposal, negotiate the terms of the partnership and close the agreement. Be sure to get the agreement in writing and make sure that both parties understand the terms and conditions. You can learn more about creating a partnership agreement here.
  7. Follow up: After closing the partnership, be sure to follow up with the partner to ensure they are satisfied with your services and to address any issues that may arise.
  8. Maintain the relationship: Keep in touch with your point of contact regularly to build a long-term relationship with them and keep them updated on new resources or updates that can benefit their organization.
