Seven Pillars for Reimagining Your Organization in a Capitalist Society

To achieve this goal, we use the PERM Cultural Competence Framework and our Seven Pillars for Reimagining Your Organization, developed by Dr. Kiara Butler.
These Seven Pillars are a comprehensive guide to reimagining your organization in a capitalist society. They include:
- Culture: Creating an environment of shared leadership that elevates the lived experiences of your team.
- Structure: Moving outside of the confinements of traditional entity structures, whether it be a limited liability company or nonprofit.
- Branding: Articulating your brand and mission beyond an anti-racism statement, using bold and clear language.
- Policies: Drafting and implementing policies that holistically support your team.
- Practices: Prioritizing practices that focus on outcomes over outputs.
- Partnerships: Identifying and working with partners and funders who are values-aligned.
- Accountability: Engaging in ongoing internal reflection to minimize replicating oppressive systems.
By following these Seven Pillars, leaders and teams can develop a deeper understanding of systemic racism and build a workplace culture that is truly anti-racist. However, we understand that this process can be challenging and that anti-racism work is ongoing. That’s why we provide train-the-trainer modules and coaching support to help our clients stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in anti-racism training.
